Konzerte Dresdner Salon-Damen
Situated in the delightful wine growing region of La Geria you will find, the beautifully converted bodega of El Chupadero .
This wonderful family residence is the home of Barbarba Hendriks and her family and also hosts a fabulous tapas bar which is open to everyone who enjoys a taste of typical Lanzarote.
Discretely positioned on the mountainside El Chupadero is only about 200 metres of the main road that passes through La Geria . A great deal of extremely hard labour and difficult circumstances, transformed what was formerly just a few borken down old walls , into a superb property that is almost completely self sufficient.
Solar energy is one of the main power sources, and so enthused were the local authorities, as this island is biospherically protected, that they have supported Barbara with her project.
In the area of the house that is open to the public is an intimate and friendly bar area with plenty of seating. Regular art exhibitions are held so that the walls are often adorned with some incredibly exceptional works which help to create the perfect ambience for a relaxing tapas. The fully stocked bar specialises in fabulous locally made wines that are grown, picked and produced right on the door step. Most of the food is also prepared from locally grown produce and is all cooked with the aid of natural resources. Although the menu is not extensive, what is available is an absolute culinary delight and exceptional value for money and also special dishes of the day.
El Chupadero is open from 12.00 hrs until 24.00 hrs from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Monday to enable Barbara to spend time with her familiy in their home.
In the coming months, live music will be offered on selected Friday nights. These evenings are bound to be a success (if any of you can remember Barbara's famous 'Full Moon' parties, that drew people from all over the island).
The first group to play at El Chupadero's are a female quintet from Germany. These brilliant musicians not only play, but dance and generally entertain with their vivacious charm. Called Dresdner Salon- Damen, the girls take you back to the days of the 1920-30's. They will be appearing on Friday February 25th and admission for this evening of entertainment will be 1000 Ptas.
